The best Masters Redbud skip ever? Perhaps. The best ever caught on film? Definitely.
As we wind up for a Masters weekend destined to be full of Tiger paparazzi and a cadre of bimbos crashing the perimeter fences of Augusta National, it’s worth taking a closer look at the more wholesome affair known as the “skippy” tradition.
Monday and Tuesday are set aside for practice rounds at Augusta and at some point in the last 20-30 years, someone decided to mix things up. Some say Trevino and some say Seve, but the point is that the tradition of deliberately trying to skip a perfectly good brand new golf ball across the pond and onto the green at the 16th hole (aka Redbud), has now become the main event for quite a few patrons. There have been synchronized attempts, at least one ace, and plenty of cracked smiles amidst the pleading of “skip, skip, skip” from the gallery.
Even Tiger gave it a go this year, which means he must have cleared it with his agent, attorney, and mother beforehand. A full recovery and a new Gatorade contract could be right around the corner in return for his newfound playfulness. In any event, here are a couple more clips to get you ready for the real deal later this week:
